Madam V:
Virginia Vernon's War
Battling to Bring ENSA Entertainment to the British Troops
Join us for an intimate evening marking the publication of Madam V: Virginia Vernon's War — the story of ENSA's remarkable Chief Welfare Officer, told for the first time. The Nell of Old Drury was a favourite haunt of Virginia Vernon herself during the Blitz, making it the perfect stage for this celebration.
The Evening
- Authors Matthew Eaton & Adam Fairclough in conversation
- Readings and wartime stories from the book
- Books available to buy and have signed on the night
- Drinks in a venue with its own wartime history
About the Book
Virginia Vernon served as ENSA's Chief Welfare Officer throughout the Second World War — from the BEF in Arras in 1939 to General Slim's Fourteenth Army in Burma in 1945. Battling grief, male chauvinism, and the most inhospitable terrain, she earned the admiration of royalty, the military, and the stars of stage and screen.
We'd love to see you there
